Quilted Glass, Lit From Within

Filmed with warm-white bulbs. Glass tone and light spread vary with bulb temperature and room finish.

The Solaine Quilted Glass Teardrop Wall Sconce features a slendery polished nickel frame supporting multiple layers of elongated glass drops. Each drop presses a raised quilted texture that captures light across its surface rather than reflecting flatly. Ten individual pieces hook onto the top rail and hang freely, stepping inward layer by layer until the silhouette narrows to a single teardrop at the bottom. With this chandelier-like arrangement, two bulbs behind the glass create scattered points of brightness across the wall. The fixture measures 11.8 inches wide by 16.9 inches tall, extending 7.1 inches out from the surface. It is available with aqua, clear, or pink colored glass mounted on the polished nickel chassis.

This unit functions smoothly with dimmable bulbs and matching wall control switches. It is hardwired for installation in indoor dry environments.

Design Characteristics

Deep Pressed Quilting

The lattice design extends fully down the length of every teardrop. Even when the light is off, the piece possesses visible weight and substance rather than appearing as plain flat glass.

Independent Suspension

Each segment hooks individually to the upper rail, settling naturally against adjacent pieces. You may remove any single drop to clean the assembly without disturbing the others.

Stepped Tier Silhouette

Staggered depths cause the profile to narrow descendingly, culminating in one terminal piece. This genuine projection provides significant architectural presence for a wall fixture.

Scattered Illumination

Glass quilting refracts light into speckled points upon impact. Movement occurs across the surface instead of creating a flat illuminated pool.

Size & Installation Guide

Overall Size ∅ 11.8″ × H 16.9″ × W 7.1″ · 30 × 43 × 18 cm
Projection Stands 7.1″ off the wall — keep it clear of walkways and door swings
Best For Master bedrooms, entryways, living rooms, either side of a fireplace, and above a dining room sideboard
Mounting Height Centre the fixture 60–66″ from the floor, so the glass sits at roughly eye level for someone standing
Hanging as a Pair Flanking a mirror: 36–40″ apart centre to centre. Either side of a bed: set one above each nightstand, clear of the headboard.

Tip: This is a hardwired fixture, so installation by a licensed electrician is recommended. Confirm the wall box is securely anchored before mounting — ten glass pieces carry real weight. Each teardrop hooks on individually, so hang the frame first and add the glass last.

Choose Your Glass

The colour sits inside the glass rather than on its surface, so it deepens where the teardrops overlap and lightens at the thin edges. Which one suits you depends less on the fixture than on the wall behind it.

Solaine wall sconce in aqua textured glass, unlit, front view

Aqua

Cools a warm room

The most decisive of the three. Against white or pale grey it reads breezy and coastal; against a deep navy or forest wall it turns jewel-like and the tint carries into the light itself.

Pairs with white, warm cream, pale grey, navy, natural oak

Solaine wall sconce in clear textured glass, unlit, front view

Clear

Adds texture, not colour

Nothing filters the light, so this is the brightest of the three and throws the sharpest scatter on the wall. The safe choice if the room already has a colour scheme you do not want to argue with.

Pairs with any wall colour — strongest against dark or heavily patterned walls

Pink

Warmer than it looks

This is a pale blush, not a bright pink — in a room it behaves like a warm neutral. It looks its best against colours that hold their own: deep green, slate blue, walnut and warm wood tones.

Pairs with forest green, slate blue, walnut, terracotta, warm white

Still deciding? All three are shown unlit here. Aqua and pink read strongest during the day, when the tint is doing the work; clear comes into its own after dark. If you are hanging a pair, order both in the same tint at the same time so they come from one glass batch.

Pairing Considerations

A single sconce lights a corner; a matched pair builds symmetry into the wall itself. Light arrives from both sides at once, with no shadow cast down the middle — and because the tiers project well off the backplate, two of these read as architecture rather than accessories.

A pair of Solaine glass teardrop wall sconces mounted either side of a bed, annotated with a 60 to 66 inch mounting height, over 40 inch spacing and 7.1 inch projection

A matched pair, centred 60–66″ from the floor

  • A 60–66″ from the floor to the fixture centre
  • B Over 40″ apart at a bed; 36–40″ at a mirror
  • C 7.1″ projection — keep clear of door swings

Either Side of the Bed

Mount one above each nightstand, clear of the headboard, and the surface below stays free. Set the height so the lowest teardrop sits above eye level when you are sitting up in bed — usually a little higher than the 60–66″ rule.

Flanking a Dressing Mirror

Set 36–40″ apart, centre to centre, with the glass at eye level. Light arriving from both sides falls evenly on the face instead of casting the downward shadows an overhead fixture creates.

Framing a Fireplace

Set level with each other above the mantel line, a pair turns a blank chimney breast into a composed wall. The deep tiers give it enough weight to hold that much space without a mirror or artwork between them.

Can You Mix Two Tints?

Not across a flanking pair — when both are taken in at a single glance, two tints read as a mistake rather than a choice. Mixing works when they sit apart: one tint up a stairwell, another in the room it opens onto.

Ordering a pair: Each sconce ships as a complete fixture with its own backplate, so a pair needs two wall boxes. Order both in the same tint at the same time — the colour sits in the glass and reads slightly different across production batches, so a pair bought together will always be closer than two ordered months apart. Every teardrop hooks on individually and can be replaced on its own if one is ever damaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the glass hand-made or moulded? The teardrops are pressed in a mould, which is what allows the quilted lattice to run this deep and this evenly down the full length of every piece. Assembly is done by hand: all ten pieces are hooked onto the frame individually, so each fixture settles slightly differently.

Will the pink or aqua tint fade over time? No. The colour is in the glass body itself, not a sprayed coating on the surface, so there is nothing that can wear off, peel or yellow. It will read the same in ten years as it does on the day you hang it.

Which tint should I choose? Clear is the safe answer when the room already has a colour scheme — it adds texture without adding colour and throws the brightest scatter. Aqua cools a warm room, reading coastal against white and jewel-like against navy. Pink is a pale blush, not a bright pink, and behaves like a warm neutral; it looks best against colours that hold their own, such as deep green, slate blue or walnut.

Is a bulb included, and which one should I use? No — the sconce takes two bulbs on an E12 or E14 base, 40W maximum each, and bulbs are sold separately. A warm-white bulb around 2700K suits the glass best. Cool white flattens the texture and makes the tinted versions look grey rather than coloured.

Can it be dimmed? Bulbs are not included, so dimming comes down to what you buy. The fixture uses standard sockets with no built-in driver: fit dimmable E12 or E14 bulbs and pair them with a compatible wall dimmer, and it dims smoothly. Fit non-dimmable LED bulbs and it will only switch on and off. Check the bulb packaging says dimmable before you buy.

How far does it stick out from the wall? 7.1″ — noticeably deeper than a flat-backed sconce. That depth is what gives the tiers their presence, but it also means this is not a fixture for a narrow hallway or a spot behind a door swing. In a bedroom, beside a fireplace or above a sideboard, the projection works in your favour.

Can I use it in a bathroom? Only in a dry area, well away from the shower or tub. The fixture is rated IP20 for indoor dry locations and is not waterproof. A powder room is fine; a wet zone is not.

What if a piece of glass arrives damaged? Because every teardrop hooks on individually, a single damaged piece can be replaced on its own — you do not need to return or replace the whole fixture, which is not true of a one-piece glass shade. Please contact customer support with photos of the packaging and the piece and we will arrange a replacement.

How do I clean the textured glass? For routine dusting, a dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush gets into the lattice. For a deeper clean, switch off, let the fixture cool, then lift the teardrops off their hooks and wash them in warm soapy water. Dry each piece fully before rehanging. Never spray cleaner onto the fixture while it is mounted — liquid should not reach the wiring.

Buy as a Pair & Save
Sconces almost always go up in twos. If you need two, choose the option marked (×2) — a set of two is priced better than two singles, and both are cut from the same glass batch, so the tint matches.
